Will Moving Companies Move Plants?

Will Moving Companies Move Plants

For many moving companies, plants are on the do-not-ship list thanks to varying regulations and the difficulty of safe transportation. However, there are several things that can do to prepare your plants for transportation in your own vehicle that will ensure they arrive safely and in good health at your new home. You must also be mindful of regulations when moving to another state or another country, as certain plants may not be allowed in some regions for ecological reasons.

Before moving your plants, you will want to perform the following tasks:

  • Three weeks before the move, move your plants into unbreakable plastic pots.
  • Two weeks before the move, prune your plants to make them more compact and easy to transport.
  • During the week before the move, check your plants thoroughly for insects and continue watering as usual, making sure not to overwater them, as this can cause problems like freezing and fungus growth.
  • On the night before the move, prepare your plants by wrapping them in an old bedsheet or tissue paper to help prevent branches form breaking. Place them inside of a double-layer corrugated cardboard box and, if necessary surround them with packing paper. Don’t forget to poke holes in the box so that the plants can breathe. Also, label the box so it is not mistakenly loaded into the moving truck.
