Moving Day Etiquette

Moving Day EtiquetteThere’s a lot to think about when preparing for a move, even if you’ve made the smart decision to hire professional movers. But if you have never worked with a moving company before, then you might be wondering if there is a certain protocol that should be followed on moving day. Here are some tips on proper moving day etiquette:

  • Figure out where the movers will park – If you have your own driveway, then make sure all cars are parked elsewhere so that the movers can easily park the truck. If the truck needs to be on the street, you should speak to your neighbors first, especially if the truck may block their driveways.
  • Be prepared for the movers – Have all boxes packed and ready to go. If you are still packing boxes when the movers arrive, this will make your move take longer, and it could distract you when the movers need to ask you for your input on something.
  • Provide refreshments for the movers – While this is not required, it is polite to offer your movers water during the moving process, since lifting and loading furniture is hard work. If you’re moving during the winter, then offering coffee or hot chocolate would also be nice.
