Packing Computer Long Distance MoveWith all the work that goes into moving, it’s important that your most useful and valuable belongings make it safely to your final destination, whether that be in Denver or somewhere else. This includes your home computer. While it may seem daunting to disassemble and pack your computer, it doesn’t have to be as long you follow these simple and easy steps for packing your computer in preparation for a long distance move.

Preparing the Computer for the Move

  • Measure the dimensions of both the computer and the monitor so that you can find a box that will easily fit both items inside
  • Back up the data on your hard drive using a cloud based service, to prevent any data-loss catastrophes
  • Take a picture of the way the cables are plugged into the computer which will help with reassembly
  • Remove any cables and accessories that are plugged into the computer including mice, keyboards, flash drives, and game controllers

Packing the Computer

  • Place all cables and accessories in a plastic bag and wrap the bag in padding, preferably bubble wrap
  • Cushion the box with crumpled packing paper
  • Wrap the computer tower in several layers of padding and secure it with tape
  • Lay the tower down flat at the bottom of the box
  • Wrap the monitor in padding then place it upright in the box with the screen facing the inside wall of the box
  • Place the cable and accessory bag inside the box
  • Add anymore packing paper that might be necessary to secure the components
  • Give the box a gentle shake to ensure that everything is secure then tape it shut and label it accordingly
