How Do You Pack Shoes for Moving?

When packing for a move, you may be tempted to simply throw all of your shoes in a box (or boxes, if you have many pairs). However, this can lead to shoes that are scuffed, scraped, or misshapen when you open the box at your new home. To keep your shoes in good shape, take a little extra time to protect them for transit.

First, stuff shoes with packing paper so that they will not get crushed or lose their shape once packed. Then, wrap a sheet of packing paper around one shoe, then wrap the paper around the other shoe, then tape the bundle together. Do this with all of your shoes, then place the heaviest and sturdiest shoes, such as hiking boots, on the bottom of the box. Stack the bundles of shoes until the box is full, using packing paper to fill in any spaces to prevent shifting. It is important to note that you should use packing paper, not newspaper, for this task, because the newspaper ink can discolor your shoes.
